Reef HQ Great Barrier Reef Aquarium

Reef HQ Aquarium – Kids will marvel at all the colours and marine life on display

Reef HQ Aquarium invites guests to visit all the natural wonders of the Great Barrier Reef at the ‘world’s largest living Coral Reef Aquarium.’
Reef HQ Aquarium acts as a window to the reef and boasts a range of displays and exhibits to inspire the conservation of the Great Barrier Reef.
Not only is Reef HQ Aquarium an award winning tourist attraction in North Queensland it is also the education facility for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, and home to thousands of incredible marine creatures. Kids will have fun while learning about the wonders of the Reef.
A 20-metre long acrylic walk-through tunnel allows excellent viewing on one side into the 750,000 litre Predator Exhibit containing a replica of part of the S.S. Yongala, a world renowned dive site near Townsville. Feeding shows happen most days and provide added opportunity to better understand reef animals. The Predator Exhibit is home to shark species such as the blacktip and whitetip reef sharks; leopard and nurse sharks live together with stingrays, giant trevally and a green turtle. Watching them feed is quite a spectacle. But then again, so too is seeing the box jellyfish devour a prawn!
Reef HQ is an interactive museum. A team of expert reef interpreters guide visitors through Reef HQ. Many Reef HQ interpreters are volunteers who have lived in this part of Queensland for some time. Their local knowledge is readily sought and their personal anecdotes put a unique spin on reef interpretation.
Signature tours are run daily by a team of interpretative guides and volunteers.
