Passport to Adventure

The Hon. Bill Byrne MP, Minister of National Parks, Sport and Recreation, and Nature Play QLD has inspired tens of thousands of children in Queensland to undertake outdoor adventures with Nature Play QLD’s Passport to an Amazing Childhood program.

The Passport to an Amazing Childhood is a powerful and practical tool for inspiring and encouraging outdoor play for Queensland young people.  In just over a year since Nature Play QLD launched, the Passport to an Amazing Childhood program has given tens of thousands of Queensland parents and educators free outdoor play ideas and suggestions. As a result, over 13% of Queensland children aged 0-12 are now playing outdoors more often and gaining the many advantages of an outdoors rich childhood, including healthy minds and bodies.

Nature Play QLD’s Passport to an Amazing Childhood is essentially reversing the growing trend of the increasing amount of time children are spending indoors and in sedentary activities.  Most importantly, Queensland children love it.

Nature Play QLD Program Manager, Hyahno Moser, said:

“Too many kids aren’t getting the right balance between ‘screen time and green time’.  We’re helping children get outside, to be happier, healthier as they grow and play in nature.”

Nature Play QLD is celebrating the recent milestone of 100,000 Queensland children being involved in the program by awarding the recipient of the 100,000th Nature Play passport, which was ordered by Rockhampton childcare, Guppy’s Early Learning Centre.  The Minister will deliver Nature Play QLD’s prize of a child’s play mud kitchen to the Centre on Thursday 27 August at 9:00 am.

Guppy’s Early Learning Centre plans to use their Nature Play QLD passports to organise and run a variety of outdoor play missions for the children in their centre.

Guppy’s nominated Supervisor Belinda Hunter said:

“We ordered the passports because we love the idea of our kids playing outside more often. I would like to see our children become more active and get back to the basics of outdoor play and lead healthy lifestyles. Our staff are also looking for ideas to include in their daily programs.”

Nature Play QLD’s Passport to an Amazing Childhood is a free program in which all parents and educators can get their children involved. Along with the thousands of passport orders by Queensland parents and carers, organisations including schools, child care centres, after school care providers, kindergartens, mothers groups, play groups, Government organisations and community groups regularly order passports for the Queensland children they serve.
